The art of GPS?

-Posted by Jon Lunger, ArtsQuest’s Marketing Manager and amateur cartographer.

I’ve always believed there is an art to getting lost.

Perhaps its because I was blessed with what I perceive to be an above average sense of navigation, but I’ve always felt that GPS has taken the adventure out of traveling.

Personally, I’d rather it take 3x as long to get somewhere, discovering countless treasures and going on random mini-adventures along the way, than listen to a computerized voice tell me where to go.

But a recent trend is making me recalculate my direction.   Some very clever artists are doing some very interesting things, with the help of my old nemesis, GPS.

In November, the bouncy-indie-pop-rock group and viral video making sensation OK Go, held a musical parade through the streets of LA, their route spelling out “OK Go”  along the way.   It’s cooler than I make it sound.  Check it out on YouTube.

Artist Tim Clark is playing Tetris on the streets of Manhattan.

Clearly, I need to buy some GPS.
